We went to a gallery opening. These things can be fun — wine and cheese and artsy munchies — but rarely do we see stuff at galleries that we would want to see in our home.

This event was an exception. The artist being shown was Franco Mondini-Ruiz, a friendly fellow who paints with flair and whimsy. We immediately decided that Greta, who was becoming the hit of the party (for a good while, a complete stranger carried her around from painting to painting, just for the pleasure of holding her), and who was quite pleased with the art, looking with interest at nearly every painting, needed to make her first art investment.

Voila! Three paintings: "The Black and White Ball," "Woman with an Extraordinary Gift," and "Cat in Cartier."
